Crohns Disease

All About Aloe Vera and Crohns Disease

Crohns disease is an inflamation and ulceration process that occurs in the deep layers of the intestial wall, most commonly the lower part of the small intestine and first part of the colon. Less frequently, it can affect the upper gastrointestinal tract, with ulcers occuring in the oesophagus, stomach and upper small intestine.

What are the symtoms of Crohn's Disease

Symtoms include abdominal pain, diarrhoea, weight loss, rectal bleeding and fever.

The most common complications of Crohn's Disease are blockage of the intestine and infected fistulas. Fistulas occur when ulcers break through the intestine wall, making tunnels into surrounding tissues of the bladder, genital area or skin. They can cause abscesses, which may require surgery.

Crohns is a difficult disease as it is a long-term disability. Periods of quienscence can be followed by severe relapses. These periods of disability can vary from less than a month where the disease it easily controlled (with diet and medication) to permanent disability.

How can Aloe Vera help Crohns Disease?

The intestine is a highly complex multi-purpose organ with an important role in immunity against disease and allergy control. It is therefore important to keep it in tip top condition.

The cells of the intestines are the fastest growing cells in the body (replaced every 4 days or so) so they have to be continually replenished to maintain the immunity barrier.

The main fuel they need is the amino acid I-glutamine; we do not get much of this in our diet. Aloe Vera contains this substance thereby enhancing the ability of cell regeneration.

If "leaking gut syndrome" develops - where unwanted substances and toxins are absorbed through the gut walls and into the blood stream causing havoc in the immune system (This condition is also suspected as being a major factor in a wide range of food and chemical sensitivities, arthritis, asthma, candida, headaches, digestive problems and chronic fatigue).

Long chain polysaccarides that repair these tiny "holes" are also contained in Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera has amazing anti-inflamatory attributes which are very effective in calming the intestinal spasms that cause abdominal pain, as well as soothing other Crohns Disease Symptoms.

Aloe Vera contains over 200 nutrients - Vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes essential for keeping your body in good working order. These nutrients are in a natural and synergic form which are easily metabolised in the human body to promote good health.
